EU law imposes strict limits on the water treatment methods that can be used for water products that are marketed as mineral water. The Senate report alleges that Nestl uses activated carbon filters and ultraviolet treatments in its Vittel, Hpar, Contrex, and Perrier factories, which are not permitted under EU law.

Japan’s House of Councillors Saturday passed a law to tighten restrictions on the solicitation of donations by religious and secular groups. Under the law, organizations also cannot ask potential benefactors to sell real estate or other assets in order to donate. The bill will take effect 2o days after passage.
