Rights group welcomes acquittal of Türkiye lawyer amid ongoing repression of human rights activists

Amnesty International on Thursday welcomed the acquittal of prominent refugee rights lawyer and former chair of the organization’s Trkiye branch, Taner Kl , following an eight-year judicial process but expressed concern over continued repression of human rights activists. In its statement, the human rights organization said that Kl’s case exemplifies the Turkish authorities’ attempts to criminalize human rights advocacy through politically motivated prosecutions.

Kenya high court affirms citizenship rights of Kenyan Somali nationals

Kenya’s High Court of Garissa ruled on Wednesday that the Kenyan government’s refusal to issue identification documents to ethnic Kenyan Somali nationals was unconstitutional and infringed on their rights. Kenyan NGO Haki-na-Sheria issued a statement on Wednesday welcoming the judgment on its official X account. Justices validate right to renew lawsuit after voluntary dismissal

Share Gary Waetzig filed an age discrimination suit against his former employer, Halliburton. He then dismissed the suit when the company pointed out that he had agreed to arbitrate. When he lost in arbitration and tried to return to federal court, the statute of limitations on the alleged age discrimination had passed, and he asked the court instead to grant relief from the previous order of dismissal, essentially reopening that first case.
