The National Court of Justice of Ecuador decided on Friday that former vice president Jorge Glas must remain in jail despite denouncing his arrest at the Mexican Embassy as illegal. The habeas corpus petition filed to request his release stemmed from his detention during the raid at the Mexican Embassy last week and followed a series of international petitions to international organizations.

The German parliament, the Bundestag, passed contentious legislation on Friday authorizing the issuance of payment cards to asylum seekers and refugees for the distribution of state benefits. The nationwide legal framework was approved following a conference between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the state prime ministers in November last year, during which 14 out of the 16 federal states reached a consensus on the prepaid payment system.

We recently discussed the students who conducted a protest inside the home of Berkeley Dean Erwin Chemerinsky and his wife, law Professor Catherine Fisk. The students, including UC Berkeley law student Malak Afaneh, refused to stop disrupting the dinner as Chemerinsky and Fisk reminded them that this is their home, not a public forum.
