The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit temporarily stayed a district court’s preliminary injunction on Saturday that blocked a California law that prohibits concealed carry permit holders from carrying firearms in most public places. In a two-page order, the court paused the district court injunction pending the resolution of the appeal.

The United Nations (UN) deployed peacekeepers to the northwest of the Central African Republic (CAR) after a deadly attack last week that killed 23 civilians. According to a Wednesday report from the UN, the 3R rebel group was allegedly responsible for the attack which occurred in the Nzakoundou village. The peacekeepers were sent to “strengthen security and facilitate humanitarian aid access” in light of “tense” conditions following the attack.

US federal Judge Stephen Locher on Friday blocked key provisions of SF 496 , an Iowa law prohibiting school libraries from distributing books containing LGBTQ+ and gender identity issues. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that the Court of Appeal of Qatar has decided to commute the death sentences of eight Indian nationals working for Doha-based Al Dahra Global. According to the MEA, the detailed judgment from the Court of Appeal has yet to be released. The MEA also stated that the Indian ambassador to Qatar was present in the court for the announcement of the judgment, along with the family members of the eight men.

The Supreme Court of Korea found on Thursday that shipbuilder Hitachi Zosen Corp. and heavy equipment manufacturer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries owe 50 million won (approx. $39,000) and 150 million won (approx. $116,000), respectively, to victims of forced labor during World War II. The two companies now owe 16 families of former workers and one former worker based on the finding.

The Indonesian Navy pushed back a vessel carrying Rohingya refugees after it was detected in Indonesian waters on Wednesday. The refugee boat was intercepted by a naval vessel roughly 63 nautical miles off the coast of Aceh, a semi-autonomous Indonesian province in the northwestern tip of Sumatra island, according to the Indonesian Navy’s account of the incident.

Russia accused Ukraine on Saturday of using internationally prohibited cluster munitions in strikes on the city of Belgorod in Russia. The country’s Permanent Representative the UN Security Council called the strikes “indiscriminate” and said they killed 18 people, including three children, in addition to injuring 108 others. Russia called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council following Ukraine’s shelling attack on Belgorod.
