UN World Food Program asks Israel for humanitarian access through Gaza blockade

Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) Cindy McCain called upon Israel on Monday to increase humanitarian access to Gaza. McCain met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss the food crisis in the region. After the October 7 attack , the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) put a blockade in place in Gaza to pressure Hamas.

HRW: France draft immigration law threatens human rights

Human Rights Watch (HRW) warned in a report Monday that a French immigration bill under consideration threatens to curtail human rights. HRW says the bill, which is currently before the French Senate, would weaken safeguards for foreign nationals being deported, allow the rejection of residence permits for failing to comply with France’s values, place greater restrictions on appeal rights and administrative procedures, and limit protections for migrant children.

Colorado jury finds third police officer charged with death of Elijah McClain not guilty

A Colorado jury returned a not guilty verdict on Monday for a third police officer charged in the 2019 death of 23-year-old Elijah McClain. Aurora Police Officer Nathan Woodyard was charged with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in 2021. Woodyard was one of the five people, including three police officers and two paramedics, who were charged in a 32-count indictment.
