Ecuador judge orders preventative detention and other measures for 17 defendants in organized crime and bribery case

JURIST

The Ecuadorian State Attorney’s General Office announced Sunday that a national judge granted prosecutor Diana Salazar’s request and ordered the preventative detention of 14 defendants in a case related to alleged bribery and organized crime. The judge also ordered house arrest and the use of electronic devices for two elderly individuals, as well as preventative measures for.a pregnant defendant.

Senate Substitute 1 for Senate Bill 11 passed in the Delaware House of Representatives by 32 – 8 after it passed the Delaware Senate unanimously. Louisiana faces new lawsuit over Ten Commandments classroom display law

A coalition of Louisiana parents and civil rights organizations has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the new state law (House Bill 71) that mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in all public school classrooms, saying it violates the First Amendment by imposing religious beliefs on students. The bill was signed into law on June 19 , after being passed by the state house on May 28 with 79 yeas, 16 nays and 10 absent.

Russia reports capture of two rural settlements in Donetsk

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that it took control of two settlements located in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region. In a brief daily update on Telegram, the Ministry announced the capture of Spirne and Novoaleksandrovka, which the Russian government recognizes as part of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
