On Sunday, Saudi Arabia appointed Dr Faisal Al-Mujfel as its first ambassador to Syria since relations were severed in 2012. This appointment comes after Saudi Arabia reopened its embassy in Syria earlier this year. The diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Syria initially deteriorated following the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, sparked by the crackdowns on popular protests.

The Japanese prime minister’s office issued an emergency warning through its J-Alert nationwide warning system on Monday, urging residents in southern Japan to take cover indoors or in a sheltered area due to the possible threat of a North Korean ballistic missile. Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Yoshimasa Hayashi said that the missile disappeared from radar in the evening afterward.

At least 134 people have been killed in the past two weeks as a result of recent escalations in the ongoing conflict between Sudan’s military and paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Doctors without Borders reported Sunday. Doctors without Borders, also known as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), said, “We have now treated 979 casualties since the fighting began over two weeks ago, and the death toll has reached 134 – a sign of the violent intensity of the fighting.̶

Nicholas Hosteter, 25, is not the first alleged felon to be caught after the circulation of a photo. He is one of the few, however, who can claim that he posed for his own wanted picture taken by one of his own victims. Hosteter was arrested in connection to the two attacks on elderly men, according to the Campbell Police Department. President Emanuel Macron of France will lift the state of emergency in New Caledonia on Tuesday, French newspaper Le Monde reported Monday. The state of emergency will lift on Tuesday at 5 a.m., but some curfew measures will remain. 480 mobile gendarmes will also be sent as reinforcements, according to the publication. The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office said on Sunday that a Russian strike on a hardware store in Kharkiv, Ukraine a day before killed and injured at least 17 and 48 people, respectively. Five people also remain missing. The victims of the strike were employees and customers of the store.
