Human rights organizations sounded the alarm on Tuesday over the deteriorating health of Chinese legal scholar and human rights lawyer Xu Zhiyong, who has been on a hunger strike for nearly a month to protest his ongoing ill-treatment in detention. Xu , a key figure in China’s New Citizens’ Movement, has been held since February 2020, following his involvement in a meeting of activists and lawyers advocating for government transparency and civil rights.

The Federal Police in Brazil announced on Monday that they identified and arrested the murderer of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips, ending a two-year investigation into the double homicide of the Brazilian indigenous activist and the British journalist who were killed in the Javari Valley in the Amazon. The Federal Police stated that their investigations revealed that the homicide was carried out by a criminal organization consisting of nine people.

Amnesty International recognized Grigory Melkonyants, co-chair of the Russian election watchdog Golos (“Voice”), as a prisoner of conscience on Tuesday. Melkonyants was arrested on August 17, 2023, shortly before the start of federal and local elections and the 2024 presidential campaign. He was charged with “organizing the activities of an undesirable organization” and could face up to six years imprisonment if found guilty.

Starting in 2022 with a patent certification requirement, both Jazz and Avadel have sued FDA over this drug, with Jazz most recently bringing suit challenging FDA’s decision that Avadel’s Lumryz (sodium oxybate) is clinically superior to Jazz’s Xywav (sodium oxybate) in 2023.
