HRW urged Ethiopian authorities and the international community to take all necessary measures to put an end to these violations and provide adequate assistance to refugees.

As a result of the convictions, Gachagua will be removed from office and barred from holding public office for life. Gachagua is expected to challenge the impeachment in court.
