The US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit dismissed a civil suit on Monday challenging New York City’s rifle permit law. The case concerned New York City resident Joseph Srour, who was denied permits to possess rifles and shotguns in his home by the New York Police Department (NYPD) in 2019, due to “poor moral judgment.” At the beginning of 2022, Srour sued the city and the NYPD Police Commissioner claiming that N.Y.C Admin.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) published a report on Monday detailing the influx of foreign-made weapons to the warring parties in Sudan. The report, titled “Fanning the Flames,” is based on a comprehensive analysis of photographs, videos, and satellite imagery, identifying the use of foreign-made weapons, such as armed drones, rocket launchers, and anti-tank missiles, which have been used on apparently illegal attacks on civilians.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday filed a lawsuit against the state of Maine for allegedly violating the civil rights of children with behavioral health disabilities. The complaint alleged that Maine had failed to provide appropriate community-based services to the families of children with such disabilities, providing them “no meaningful choice” other than to place their children in institutions.

The first investigative judge in Beirut, Lebanon, ruled on Monday that the former governor of Lebanon’s central bank (BDL), Riad Salameh, will remain in detention as investigations into corruption charges continue, local media reported. The judge issued an arrest warrant against Riad Salameh after his interrogation session concluded. Riad Salameh was the head of Lebanon’s central bank for 30 years.

Two Canadian men, Anthony Olienick and Chris Carbert, were both sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for mischief over $5000 and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence following their arrest during the Freedom Convoy blockade at the Coutts, Alberta border crossing in 2022. The two were previously not found guilty on the most serious charge they faced, conspiring to murder a police officer , which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Mexico’s Senate committees approved a controversial judicial reform late on Sunday, which aims to reform the system entirely.
