Hungary may seek to file a lawsuit against the European Union for border protection costs, Gergely Gulyás, Hungarian Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced this Thursday. Gulyás claimed that Hungary spent the equivalent of 2 billion euros on Schengen border protection without recompense from the European Union. A judge in Missouri rejected on Thursday inmate Marcellus Williams’ attempt to overturn a murder conviction and death sentence using “new” DNA evidence. Circuit Judge Bruce F. Hilton stated in the rejection that “none of this evidence is ‘new’ as it was available at trial.” Williams’ legal team filed a motion to vacate his conviction and death sentence in January.

Mexico’s Senate approved controversial judicial reforms on Wednesday despite protesters storming the chamber earlier in the session. The reform, pushed by President Andres Manuel López Obrador, obtained the two-thirds majority vote it needed to succeed in the Senate. It was approved with 86 votes in favour and 41 against after members opposing López Obrador, led by senator Miguel Ángel Yunes, decided to cast their vote in favour of the reform.
