US Senate introduces No Kings Act establishing presidents, vice presidents not immune from criminal law

US Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer introduced on Thursday the No Kings Act , establishing that US presidents and vice presidents do not enjoy immunity for violating federal criminal law. The bill relies on several provisions of the US Constitution , including the Necessary and Proper Clause under Article 1, Section 8 which gives Congress the authority to decide to whom US criminal laws apply.

The Irish High Court declared Thursday that the Irish government’s failure to provide for the basic needs of asylum seekers in Ireland is in breach of its legal obligations under the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights (CFR). Mr Justice Barry O’Donnell held that applicants for international protection in Ireland equally enjoy the right to human dignity, including the right to being provided with an adequate standard of living where they do not have sufficient means to provide for themselves.
