According to the study by the Institute of Labor Economics, the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022 may have resulted in the birth of 32,000 additional babies. After the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization births rose by an average of 2.3 percent in states enforcing abortion bans or restrictions. That may be less than many pro-choice advocates suggested, but it still amounts to tens of thousands of babies.

The Chinese government has increased mosque closures in the northern Ningxia region and Gansu province, according to a report released on Wednesday by Human Rights Watch. The government has previously faced international scrutiny for its treatment of Uyghurs in the Xinjiang region, a Chinese Muslim ethnic minority. The report describes the closure of mosques in Ningxia and Gansu, home to significant populations of Hui Muslims.

German police conduct raids on properties of suspected Hamas and Samidoun members

The German Federal Ministry of the Interior conducted raids on 16 properties that belonged to members and supporters of Hamas and Samidoun on Thursday. The extensive search resulted in the seizure of mobile phones, laptops, data carriers and documents. The federal authorities are evaluating the seized materials with the help of Islamic scholars. Israel-Hamas deal goes into effect, first hostages and prisoners released

Israel and Hamas’s deal for a temporary ceasefire went into effect Friday morning, triggering a pause in hostilities and the resumption of the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Hamas also released the first round of hostages, with Israel releasing the first round of Palestinian prisoners shortly thereafter. Israel confirmed on social media that 13 Israeli hostages were released, including four children, four of their family members and five elderly women.
