Peru constitutional court affirms ex-president pardon despite international court ruling

The Peru constitutional court moved Wednesday to affirm a 2017 pardon granting the release of ex-President Alberto Fujimori despite an Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) ruling that required the release be blocked. Fujimori was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to the maximum term of 25 years for various war crimes and corruption during his rule as president in Peru from 1990-2000.

Ukraine authorities accuse four appellate judges of bribery

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office accused on Thursday four judges from the Kyiv Court of Appeal of graft totaling $35,000. According to NABU, the payment occurred on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, when one of the accused judges was given $35,000 in exchange for a favorable judgment on an appeal of a property seizure order imposed on a private company in which the four judges were sitting.

Kenya’s High Court declared on Tuesday that a 1.5 percent levy, introduced in an earlier bill to fund affordable housing, violated constitutional principles.
