California voters reject ballot measure banning forced prison labor

JURIST

California announced on Sunday the unofficial result that voters in the state rejected Proposition 6, which would have amended the Constitution of California to ban state prisons from forcing inmates to work. Currently, if prisoners refuse to work, it is legal for prisons to impose disciplinary measures. The ballot measure was rejected by a margin of 53.8 percent to 46.2 percent during the general election on November 5th.
