INTERPOL arrests 37 suspected terrorist group members in East Africa

INTERPOL and AFRIPOL conducted an international counter-terrorism operation in East Africa on Monday. The operation resulted in the arrest of 37 suspects and the seizure of small arms and heavy weapons, with a suspected linkage to ISIS, Al Shabaab and other foreign terrorist fighters. The arrested suspects included three people in Somalia, including a suspected bomb maker and an Al-Shabaab operative.

Share The Supreme Court on Monday turned down a plea to reinstate an Ohio mans conviction for attempted murder. Justice Clarence Thomas dissented from the courts announcement that it would not intervene in the case, in an eight-page opinion joined by Justice Samuel Alito. Thomas was sharply critical of the Cincinnati-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, which had thrown out David Smiths 22-year conviction and sentence for a brutal attack on Quortney Tolliver in 2016.

European Council renews sanctions against Russia for another 6 months

The Council of the European Union extended its restrictive economic measures against Russia for another six months for its continued war in Ukraine on Monday. The measures will now be in force until 31 July, 2025. The European sanctions against the Russian Federation currently include both sanctions on Russia as well as restrictions on economic relations with Russian-occupied regions in Eastern Ukraine and annexed Crimea.
