US judge sentences UK citizen to 44 years in prison for plotting London airport bombing

Minh Quang Pham, a member of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), was sentenced Tuesday to 44 years in prison for plotting a terrorist attack at London’s Heathrow Airport in 2011. The sentence was handed down by Judge Richard Berman of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. According to prosecutors, Pham traveled to Yemen in 2010 to join AQAP and received training to wage jihad or holy war.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) claimed Thursday that the US government’s decision to permit Lithium Americas to mine at Thacker Pass in Nevada violated Indigenous people’s rights by failing to obtain free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) in accordance with international law. The 133-page report determined that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) permitted the lithium mine without the FPIC of Numu/Nuwu and Newe peoples.
