The demonstrations were in response to the party’s increasing popularity and allegations that party members attended a meeting to discuss mass deportation. According to the activist group Together Against The Right , the weekend demonstrations garnered over 1.5 million attendees across the cities.

The Criminal Court of Seine-Saint-Denis has sentenced three police officers implicated in the assault of Theo Luhaka during his 2017 arrest to suspended imprisonment ranging from three months to one year, according to local news outlet BFMTV. The main assailant officer Marc-Antoine Castelain was charged with voluntary violence leading to “a mutilation or permanent infirmity,” with his status as public authority being considered as an aggravating fact.

The bench, comprising of Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan, did not find any merit in the applications. The convicts’ time to surrender expired on Saturday. The court had agreed to entertain these applications on Thursday, which were mentioned before Nagarathna.

The Indian Supreme Court (SC) reduced Friday a sentence in a criminal contempt of court case by the Delhi High Court (DHC) against a lawyer, Virendra Singh, over his remarks against the judges of the DHC. The lawyer was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of 2,000 rupees. The SC, in its order, noted that the lawyer had filed an apology on January 18, 2024, addressing misconduct.
