The US Supreme Court on Thursday denied an application for an emergency writ of injunction against Indiana University’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, upholding the rulings of the two lower courts. More than 500 of the 356,000 officers represented by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began, according to information released by the prominent police union. The release also breaks down the death count by state, reporting that 124 officers died in Texas, 53 died in California and 44 died in New York. Delaware, Hawaii and Idaho were among the 12 states and territories where no officers reportedly died.

They walked around neighborhoods they believed the group behind the shootings frequented. They handed out fliers asking for help catching the people who orchestrated the slayings of the rapper, whose given name was Rasheen Jones, and Kwann Henderson under the guise of purchasing marijuana.

South African’s patent office, the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, issued a patent that lists an artificial intelligence (AI) as the inventor on Wednesday. The patent is the first in the world to list AI as the inventor. The AI, known as DABUS (device for the autonomous bootstrapping of unified sentience), was developed by Stephen Thaler and used by Professor Ryan Abbott and his team at the University of Surrey.

Juveniles who participated in a youth incarceration alternative program were less than half as likely to be referred to the justice system for a new felony offense, compared to juveniles who did not participate in the program, according to the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice (CJCJ) in San Francisco. An independent evaluation of the Detention Diversion Advocacy Program (DDAP) run by the CJCJ found it was significantly effective at reducing youth recidivism compared to incarceration.

The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court in Germany Thursday sentenced two Syrian nationals on war crime and terrorism-related charges. Khedr A.K. was given a life sentence, mainly for shielding the execution of a detained army officer and membership of a foreign terrorist organization. His co-defendant, Sami A.S., was sentenced to nine years in prison, for filming the crime and preparing the footage for use as propaganda, as well as for supporting a foreign terrorist organization.
