Most states have no rules, and someone just out of lawschool could handle a life-without-parole case in Illinois or Nebraska. In Texas, there’s a continuing dispute over whether the standards for death penalty defense apply if prosecutors seek life without parole instead.
So I am a recent transfer to the lawschool, but I would say probably, more importantly, I’m a proud aunt, first-generation law student, and first-generation college student. Talk about lawschool, talk about the bar, and just let students know that this is an attainable goal. Introduce yourself.
