Utah Sandbox OKs Two Programs Enabling Non-Lawyers To Give Legal Advice On Medical Debt

Two non-profit pilot programs won approval this week under Utah’s regulatory sandbox to provide non-lawyer legal assistance to individuals with medical debt. Both programs were approved May 7 by the Utah Supreme Court’s Office of Legal Innovation , which oversees the sandbox and reviews and approves applicants.

California voters reject ballot measure banning forced prison labor

Currently, if prisoners refuse to work, it is legal for prisons to impose disciplinary measures. Supporters of the measure argue that the legality of forced labor is a continuation of the US legacy of slavery. The ballot measure was rejected by a margin of 53.8 percent to 46.2 percent during the general election on November 5th.
